Logan's Eye Dr Appointment

I took Logan to a Pediatric Opthamologist today to get his eyes checked out. Sometimes they looked a little off to me but I could never pinpoint what it was. We have great insurance right now so I felt like now was a good time to have them looked at. She said he has Optic Nerve Coloboma. Basically it is a disorder of the optic nerve that he was born with and can not be fixed. So we have to focus on getting the best vision we can from the left eye which is the affected eye. He has perfect vision in his right eye and his vision is good in his left so we don't have to do anything right now. Someday he may have to wear glasses or an eye patch a few hours a day to strengthen his left eye. His left eye sometimes wanders outward so if that worsens he may have to have eye surgery. So far it is not that noticeable. I am only telling you this so that if you ever notice his eye doing that there is a reason and his parents are aware of it. This should not hinder him from leading a normal life, but he will never have perfect vision.

Don't you feel blessed that the worst thing going on with your little guy is a less than perfect eye? Good for you for being proactive and figuring out what's up.

We just took Wilson to the eye dr. and he has glasses now. I agree--good for you for being proactive! He'll be fine. But it's that small moment that hits you and you realize that your child's body isn't perfect anymore like when they were first born. Ya know? But still we are so blessed, right?

Wow, way to go on the mother's instinct, Shara!

We have done the eye surgery and the glasses thing, as you know, and it is not bad at all. Except when the glasses go missing (which they are now, first time in a loooong time, and I sure hope they turn up)!

Ditto what has already been said...and to take it one step further past what Kasia said...once you realize they aren't perfect like you thought, you realize again that they are absolutely perfectly, made as God intended for them to be. And there's something so special in knowing that. Sounds like you have a great attitude about it all:-). Hugs! You have such cute kids.
