Last Day of School
I can't believe it is already that time of year. Ross and Kaleb are both done for the year and now it is officially summer at our house. I am not sure whether I should be happy or sad. Last summer was very long with a new baby in the house. I think this summer will be easier since Logan is a little older and I am not sleep deprived, but he also seemed to sleep through all our summer activities last year. Logan wants to join in the fun now. Ross loves to have a schedule so there is no sitting around having lazy summer days at our house, I have to have activities planned or he drives me nuts. Luckily we have a nice neighborhood pool, a ward playgroup we can go to on Mondays, and a nice summer library program. On the other hand, it will be nice to sleep past 6:15 and have no homework to worry about. And next year the new school will be completed and since it is right behind our house we can sleep in a little and walk to school. Yippee!

I SO hear you -- on the one hand, once school is out it's nice to have more time with my oldest, on the other hand, it's sometimes not-so-nice to have more time with my oldest. We are pawning her off on the grandparents this year -- they get to have her stay with them for part of August, right when I'm starting to get burned out!
KW, too, also needs tons of stimulating stuff to do in the summers. I read a great suggestion for structuring summer days in a magazine once -- you have "Camp Shara", and plan a theme for each week of the summer -- like water, family, or animals. Then plan visits (pool, zoo, etc) around the themes, get library books on the themes, have a baking project related to it, and finish on Friday night with a movie related to the theme (like, for instance, Finding Nemo for the water theme). It worked for me last year, and really didn't take much extra planning, and it keeps things fun and interesting.
Good luck! Wish we could hang out with you!
I miss neighborhood pools. We have a city pool that gets so crowded, it's not really worth going. Oh, well. I know what you mean - I love having Ben and Garrett home. They are fun kids and sometimes a bit helpful. But they are also older and their demands are more complicated. I like Jessica's idea of themed weeks. We'll add that to the chores and the school work they have to do every day. I even make my kids do book reports in the summer. What a horrible mom I am.
Jessica- that is a fun idea, and works well with my visits to the library I have planned, gives them topics to look for
Elena- you are not a mean mom, I make my kids do a lot of school work over the summer too, and book reports are a good idea, Ross is an awesome reader but could use some work on comprehension
